The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI ) is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT B ) to develop a unique touchless biometric capture system , allowing users to authenticate themselves using a smartphone at anytime, and in any place. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed, according to which UIDAI and IIT B will jointly research and develop a mobile capture system for fingerprints as well as a liveness model integrated with the capture system. A liveness model is a method to verify that the supplied fingerprint is from a real, living person, and not a captured fingerprint or one that is transferred in any way.
