What’s the difference between a deemed university and a private medical college?
Their are many types of universities in India like Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed Universities and Private Universities. All these institutions are offering quality education to lacks of students in India and abroad. These education bodies provides wide range of professional courses in different trades. The Union Grant Commission (UGC) classifies and give grade to these institutions on the basis of their infrastructure and standard of education.
A deemed university is a privilege granted by UGC to college or institution due to their remarkable performance in education and research field. Such institutions has complete authority to set their own academic course work and syllabus for their studies and research work. They set their own guidelines, fees structure and some even have supremacy to give their own degree.
As compare to deemed universities, private universities have to follow lot of norms and many institutes and colleges are operated under it. On the other hand the deemed is a grade given to a college or private institute and have power to set their own educational guidelines and fee structure. Moreover, there should be some research work run by a deemed university, but this condition is not applied on private universities. On the whole Deemed universities is the final stage of a college/institute to become a full-fledged and complete university.
Now lets discuss who is best, Private University or Deemed University. Truly saying, there is nothing much difference between the two. If you are planning to do graduation or post-graduation in engineering, management, medical, physics, maths or any other, then you can opt for any of the recognized university, private or deemed. But if you want to go in the research field from some definite sector then select Deemed universities who are providing specialization in that area.
Since their are many institutes in India, it is advisable to be cautious from fake universities. Recently in January 2010, Ministry of HRD, India has derecognized 44 Deemed University due to major faults found on their educational infrastructure. So always check the recognition before choosing any of the college or university.
